and are you pointing to the txt file correctly, i.e. is the file in the same directory as the PHP script, or is it in a subfolder? -
use rtrim() i.e. rtrim($string, "0"); then you'll have to remove decimal aswell

use the round() function if you want an integer instead of a decimal, you can round it when you echo the distance or when you insert into the db...

for starters, you're inserting the image_name into the email field, not the image field and also, you need to wrap the values in {} when accessing an array value in quotes, and the index must be wrapped in single quotes i.e. $_POST[id] should be {$_POST['id']} for that code you need to verify an image is uploaded before you insert the row into the database, and do the changes to the code mentioned above... also it would probably be best to have a default value for that field (image), so that if no value is sent mysql automatically sets it to the default value. i.e. if ($image_name=='') { $image_name = "xxx.jpg"; } mysql_query("INSERT INTO driversnew (id, name, location, date_of_birth, car_number, favourite_track, least_favourite_track, achievements, sponsors, email, image) VALUES ('$_POST[id]', '$_POST[name]', '$_POST[location]','$_POST[date_of_birth]', '$_POST[car_number]','$_POST[favourite_track]', '$_POST[least_favourite_track]','$_POST[achievements]', '$_POST[sponsors]','$_POST[email]', '0')");

you need to set the timezone in the PHP.ini file, look for date.timezone = "YOUR_TIME_ZONE" and set it to your timezone, a list of timezones can be found here

I don't use PHPmyadmin, I'm sure there is a default value option for each column? if you were writing the create table query in SQL, it would look something like CREATE TABLE articles ( articleID int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, name varchar(50) NOT NULL default '', articleText TEXT NOT NULL default '', image varchar(150) NOT NULL default 'default.jpg', PRIMARY KEY (articleID) ) ... or if you've already created the table, you can alter it with sql ALTER TABLE articles MODIFY image varchar(150) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'default_image.jpg';

I added the alert (pop box) line in so you could ensure the correct data was being sent to the PHP page. you can remove the line "alert(option);" in the jquery / javascript. as for the 'Array ( [select] => option2 ) ", that is the print_r($_GET); telling us what is being received by $_GET. if you don't know the name of the file, you'll need to loop through the files in the directory with readdir(), there is an example on the PHP.net site then you'll need to read the information held within those files and hope the data is formatted in a way that you can pull it out... tutorial on reading txt files is here http://www.tizag.com/phpT/fileread.php *edit: posted wrong link
