  1. hello, ive done alot of mashups and mixes with html/css/php and notest i just couldnt learn properly all 3 properly a-z at the same time. i had little web development experience and i know in most places php/css+html is being seperated and done by different people. i decided to learn php by projects, yet when faced the project i guess i choosed the css+html side also, and spent my time doing some photoshop mockup and then try and convert it to css/html. of course i faced some difficulties and quircks and while wanting to learn php i spent time scratching my head over the css stuff. i understand that a php developer should work behing the scenes mainly and may get help from designers that will do the css and design part, yet i dont understand the job of a php developer properly. as a php developer first, what are the steps you should do(in order) when facing a project as little/big as it may be? what should i look up at first? should i first design the database and then write the tables? should i first make very basic html page for each page in the site(even if after a few will turn to one dynamicaly?) should i first start with simple html for the admin/editing area so i can enter to tables? i would really like to get tips of order and maybe articles on the subject if present. i guess im looking from a designer prespective, where i first did a simple mockup in photoshop yet i dont have enough css knowladge to do it properly and instead of learning php first, im facing alot of css problems. maybe you need to know profound css first? (but then i guess youd be a designer first). im just getting confused as i do have some css+html knowladge yet ive been told i should first dive to php and then go back to the first when needed. ill appreciate any advice/articles and your knowladge. thanks.
  2. hello, im making a table based site to tabless(well its the same site, but the design will be alittle bit different). my css knowladge is not very big, but i try to do my best, even if not in the best way possible. this is what i want to achive: where the text at the top is plain text. i tried to use dl-dt-dd wrapped in a div as they show in a css book(the art&sciense of css), and i though how to do the white inside and thought of doing another div like that inside the blue one dd. i had alot of troubles and this is what i got: mozilla: IE: i really dont know how to do the first picture like it shows, and i would really like your help. i should have this white top rounded corners inside a blue rounded corners(with the title as shown) and in the white i should write what i want. thanks.
  3. hello, i have a small site: www.mysave.co.il (im not sure how you gonna see it as its in hebrew, but i think you can understand the design.) i need to make it clonable, as easy as i can and i made a config file, where all the configuration like the site name, and other things are. i would like to get more ideas about what should be in the config file design wise. (the css file is a dynamic php file). i though before of making 3 different css files with 3 different designs but i want to keep it simple for now with only 1 css. im looking for minor changings like changing the background (although the logo filling is white so it will have to be a predetermind colors, changing the font and colors, and maybe making it possible to move the right menu to the left. just by the configuration file give it a few changes by demend. any ideas? thanks.
  4. hey, i started learning php a few days ago, even though i know some of the syntax for months. when you started learning, how many hours a day you put to it? and how did you learn? by reading books? im still pretty confused, while writing the code, gets annonyed by the html part(but hey, we are php programmers, who cares what the visual looks (: i get annonyed alot when i dont understand things which makes me feel doubts, is it normal in the start when you just starting to learn? i would like to ask you for a source, with very small projects in order to learn by them, as with the bigger 10-20+ pages projects i get very confused. can i get links to 1-5 pages very small-easy to read codes of any area to try and learn by them? also, the mysql_query text, using variables, and all the ' and " gets me very confused. is there an easier way of db manipulating with variables and sql, or its something you just need to get use to? forgive me for my bad english. (: thanks.
  5. thanks elis, i didnt meant cutting the photoshop sketch, but even programming a forum. you said that a -php- programmer should know basic html/css, and you gave a very basic example. my question was, if a php programmer should know html/css in order to do bigger "desiginig projects" like this forum(just the design) for example, more "clean" sites i mean, like portals main pages and stuff. how often a php programmer work with writing html page to a full professional site from scrach? is it possible that a php programmer, will write thousands of php code, with only a few html/css basic code? is php related in close blood to html/css in order to see any results on the screen? can it sustain without those 2?(or the first.....actually)? thanks.
  6. im not from us(forgot to mention, but its either that or my bad english is due to bad us education system (: ) but no, im from israel, so "bachelor degree" isnt something i know of here. thats why its so late(21) as ive been in the army. i know css, yet for some reason find the website building/desgin itself kinda annoying for some reason. if i want to become php programmer(and not "web programmer" or is it the same??), i should first and before, love website building? (html/css/js)?? or with a big knowladge of php, big precents of the code(lets say 80-90) will be wrriten in php? so is "website programmer" and "php programmer" the same? thanks again.
  7. hey, im 21 years old, and as carear path, as i dont have options at the moment joining the university, i decided to become a php programmer. i know the sources for learning online/with books, but after i tried learning by my own, and was finding it kinda hard at the moment, the frame my own learnings, and stick with it for a long time, i decided to take a cource while learning as much i can by my own, with this psycological frame i hope will help me. i wanted to ask, if q php developer, should know css inside out? while working at companies, he is the one that styling the system he wrote, or just write it as plain graphiclly as he can, and let the "designer" to his job? for some reason, i find css annoying ass hell(is it just me or its a wired change for programmers who know c or php for example to learn?), but it may be because i dont understand the more advaned stuff yet. so is there a difference between "web developer" and "php programmer"? i know a little php and in projects with multiple files, that i saw, there was very little html/css. are there php programmers, that know only php very good and some html, with little css for example? when companies asks for a php man, they want him to know html/css very good also? another question is, how can a guy learning php with no experience, can start a job as a php programmer? are there much companies who take a person without experience? thanks.
