Hi All, I have a linking table in my database that looks something like this: TO | FROM 1, 4 1, 7 2, 3 2, 9 3, 7 3, 8 Basically - it's a list of IDS where two records are associated. I.e., the top row says that ID 1 is related to ID 2. The second row says that ID 1 is related to ID 7. It's a -many-to-many kind of thing - many 'froms' join with many 'tos', and vice-versa. What i am trying to do is make a 'journey' through this data. I.e. make a linked list of all the following IDs from a single given one. In PHP I would simply take one id, find the related id, then run another query - over and over until the chain runs out. I was wondering if there is a clever mysql way of doing this? many thanks!

Hi All, I am trying to convert HTMLentities style encoding, to UTF decimal encoding. Basically, i'm parsing text for an epub and it wont accept special characters in the html entities form - only the decimal form. Rubbish eh? Thanks for that guys. I'm using 5.19 of PHP. Annoying. This is ridiculous, you would have thought they#d let you make zip files! If you create a .gz file, can you create it without compression? Basically, my aim is to make an .ePub file - which is a renamed .zip file containing uncompressed files.

Hi All, hopefully an easy one for you all. I've done the typical google searching etc however i have a few problems i need to overcome due to my stupid shared hosting scheme. The only php modules i have that are related to this are: gzwrite and bzip2. What i need to do is create a single archive of a collection of files. i'm not bothered about compression at all, i just want all the files in one archive (zip is by far preferable). I dont have things like ZipArchive or zipfile. Any help is appreciated!! i use shared hosting so i cant install any new modules which is rubbish! I also dont have access to shell. Many thanks,

Hi All, Does anyone have any experience, pointers or solutions on how someone can upload a word, rtf, doc, docx etc (anything word processor-y) via a form and then have php convert it into text? I have a tried a few things as well as a couple of open source doc to html converters - but nothing seems to do that good a job. Basically, i want any document that was made on a word processor to be converted into the following format: <p>Some text</p> <p>Some more text</p> etc.... This makes it easier for me to manage and archive. Many thanks! and this forum really is great!

An example doc is: <h1>The Work of an Idiot</h2> <p>Edited by A Total Moron</p> <h2>Chapter 1</h2> <p>Here is some random text</p> <h2>Chapter 2 - The Wrath of Khan's Mum</h2> <p>Here is some more random text</p> <h2>Chapter 3</h2> <p>Again.. i can ramble for ages</p> What i need is to split it into an array or a number of variables with each chunk being a chapter. I also need to have the title on its own as well. I'm fairly good at php now, but this just escapes my experience. I was thinking of exploding on the word "chapter" but i dont want it to split it if it's just a word in a sentence, i.e. "as mentioned in chapter 2, Khan's not going to get any pocket money this month". Any help is really appreciated!

Hi Guys, i was hoping for some advice. Part of a site i'm making involves a count of the number of times a unique visitor hits a certain page. For example, if someone goes to www.mysite.com/counter.php?ref=5 - then for the integer object who's reference is 5 should increment. However, if someone refreshes the page, i dont want the number to increment again - i want it to be a count of unique visitors. Does that make any sense? Any help is appreciated. My first thought is to use cookies and have a record of which pc has visited that link. But are there better ways? Thanks in advance,

Hi All, I dont suppose anyone knows a good way to unit test custom functions? I am writing about 20 new functions a day for my website but my colleague who is writing the interface takes alot longer. this means i have to wait ages before being able to thoroughly test the functions i write. Does anyone know a good way to test them? What i'm thinking of is a form where you type in the function name, then type in the variables, and then it will self pass to itself and call that function. the problem i have is being able to call a user defined function. Any tips would be great!

i have found this: $body = ereg_replace("http://([a-zA-Z0-9./-]+)$", "<a href=\"\\0\">\\0</a>", $row['item']); But from my limited understanding, that just meand anything that begins with "http://" will be converted. however, what i would rather is that if a string starts with http:// OR if a string starts with www AND ends in .co.uk, or .com, or ... whatever...... Any ideas?
