  1. Wampserver apears to be a good way to get up and running with Apache, PHP, and MYSQL. One problem -- for some reason PHP code will not execute in Wampserver unless Wampserver sees a *.php ending on the file it displays. I have found that if I rename a *.html file to have a *.php ending, both html code and php code in my (renamed) *.php file display normally.
  2. WampServer 2.0i [07/11/09] Includes : - Apache 2.2.11 - MySQL 5.1.36 - PHP 5.3.0 I have successfully downloaded Wampserver, I can see these interesting lines in its httpd.conf : LoadModule php5_module "c:/wamp/bin/php/php5.3.0/php5apache2_2.dll" ServerName localhost:80 DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www/" Currently I can display *.html files in my DocumentRoot, but any php commands in my *.html files fail to execute. For example in my *.html file this simple php code produces no output: <?php echo "<P>This is a PHP test</P>\n"; ?> Do I need to make changes in my httpd.conf? Or is there some other problem in Wampserver? P.S. - My Operating System is C:\wamp\www>ver Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]
  3. Looks like my OS is not good old DOS -- C:\APACHE\conf>ver Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] -- though I still cannot view my *.php files, or the results of any php code that appears in my *.html files. Perhaps I have fat-fingered something in my httpd.conf file. Is there some info on what an httpd.conf file needs to contain, if UNIX was never downloaded into a PC? I am intimidated by the 80 page manual for downloading UNIX-Solaris to a PC, and by its warnings that before downloading UNIX-Solaris, everything on my C:\ disk needs to be backed up.
  4. My command line looks like this: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner> so it must be DOS -- seperator is "\" not "/". Is there some hack that I can put into my httpd.conf so that php commands and *.php files can display normally in my browser? (I have Apache in my PC and it is working normally even though I have not installed UNIX). My n00b PHP program "simple.hml" displays only its title in my browser, the php code embedded within is ignored by my browser: <?php echo "<P>Hello World! I'm using PHP!</P>\n"; ?> Any *.php program I try to navigate to from my "Index of " window does not display at all -- Index of / * simple.html * simple.php * simple2.php -- clicking on simple2.php results in a "The webpage cannot be found" HTTP 400 message. I suppose I should just try installing UNIX on my PC. Selected contents of my httpd.conf file DocumentRoot "C:\public_html" <Directory "C:\public_html"> AddHandler x-httpd-php .php Action x-httpd-php "php/php-cgi.exe"
  5. Is it possible to create php programs and view them if my operating system is DOS, not unix? Whether I create a DocumentRoot of C:\public_html, or C:/public_html, in my httpd.conf file, the result is: When go to my "localhost" page, I see: Index of / simple.php simple2.php but when I try to click either of the above links they fail. Is there a way around this? I believe it occurs since DOS uses "\" as its seperator, not "/" as in UNIX. I am using the latest versions of the Apache server and of PHP. Thank You, Robert Kruck
