Well, apparently I need to go back through PHP 101 because I can't get this working at all. I don't understand what part goes where and when I tried to upload it as is so I could tinker with it and get a feel it's giving me a parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end on line 66 Sorry to be such a bother but if anybody can explain this to me in the simplest way possible then I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for your help jcbones, at least I'm making some form of progress.

Well shoot, that's disappointing. You wouldn't happen to know how it could be modified to display/create a point system for users do you? I want something that I can add to user pages that gives them their unique number of points associated with their username. Then have forms that can submit or subtract points based on user names. I can't find information anywhere on that, I've asked in both here and yahoo but this was the only real answer I got. :-\

Well, I asked how to create a user point system in PHP on Yahoo answers and someone gave me this response, unfortunately I don't quite understand how it works. I already have a user database and table for my login system in my MySQL could somebody give me a more detailed as to how to implement this code? I'm very new and am still having trouble grasping some of the most basic things. Any clarification at all would be very much appreciated, although the more detailed the better. Thanks gang.

Let me explain what I would like to do in a different way. I would like users to have a number counter displayed on their profile. Whenever a user enters a user's name into the sign up form as the person who recommended them to the site then that number would increase by X. Then have another form that if they submit it will decrease by X. I cannot seem to find any information for how to do this at all yet I can't imagine it would be too mind-boggling to accomplish. Just like how most forms have a "number of posts" counter, it would be essentially the same except the number would be changed based on a form submission including the user's name.

I looked over Zend_Acl and didn't see anything about how to implement a point system with it. I want the points to be visible to the users, basically create a virtual currency. Like gold on Gaiaonline or as I said the point system in yahoo answers. While I appreciate a recommendation I don't see how this would allow me to create that.

I would like to implement a point system for my members, basically what I would like to do is make it so that on the sign up page a user can enter the username of the person who referred them to the site, upon signing up the referrer would then get x amount of points. Those points could then be used to perform specific actions that would otherwise be blocked, such as submitting a form. I would also like to be able to deduct user points when a form is submitted. (Sorta like answers.yahoo.com) Could anybody teach me how to do this or point me in the direction of a tutorial? Please keep in mind I'm a novice to PHP.

But essentially that outlines my problem, so is there a way to separate them without combing through and changing the process.php and session.php forms? Because I don't think I'm capable of properly doing that without totally fucking it up since I'm so new to PHP.

Alright, well I realized it's doing the exact same thing it was doing before it was in the iframe which is assigning the errors to both forms since they share a common name and it's for whatever reason redirecting me to the frame after doing that. Is there a way to isolate the iframe so that the process.php page doesn't read the iframe? Anyone have any other ideas?

Problem page: http://test.webvillains.com/logger/register.php I decided that instead of recoding all my php processing forms I would stick my register page in an iframe so I could have both the login and register on the same page without incident with the same names assigned to the inputs. However, if you click the login button then for some reason I cannot figure out it is redirecting me to the source of the iframe.... Can anyone figure out how to make it stop doing that?

Yeah I'm going through this and there are too many thing associated with "user" for me to feel comfortable going through and trying to fix it without more experience with it, even with the script creator's notes. I'm going to keep trying though, but if anyone else can hop in and offer some help that would be awesome.

I'm really desperate for help on this, if there is anyone willing to take the time to help me through this issue I'd be more thankful than you'll ever realize. I'm currently learning how to build a PHP member login, however I've run into a serious problem. problem page: http://test.webvillains.com/logger/register.php Tutorial I used: http://www.evolt.org/node/60384 (Incase you want to take a peek at the PHP files) Notice if you click the "Login" button or "Join" button without entering values or entering invalid ones then the error messages op up for both the login form and the register form, regardless of which button you clicked. Not to mention my page layout explodes, but I'll deal with that later. Now, I understand why this is happening (I think) which is that the the buttons are accessing the "process.php" file which assigns the same name to both the login and register username and password fields, since the tutorial/script I originally got this from was not meant to have the login on the same page as the register or any other form. So when it's getting processed it's assigning errors to both since it's reading them as the same thing. So why don't I just fix it if I know what the problem is? Well quite simply I don't know how, it seems I'd have to go in and make some relatively serious modifications to the process.php and/or session.php files. I'm far too much of a novice to try and do this, I just started really trying to learn PHP about a week ago. Does this mean I want you to go in and rewrite the script for me? Well yes, but I don't expect that to happen. What I want to do is know if there's another way around this. I tried putting the register section in a separate .php file and putting it in as an <iframe> so that the process.php file would only be reading the one page, and that worked absolutely perfect for the register. However, when I would click the login button for some reason it would take me to the source of the iframe. So I'd click "login" and be redirected to "registermain.php" which is what I was using as the iframe source. I could not for the life of me figure out how to stop that from happening. So does anyone know a solution to this? Can anyone offer me any advice at all that would help me fix this? Is there a way to directly link the login button specifically to my login form in order to stop it from going to the source of the iframe? Any solution I haven't thought up? I'm extremely new to PHP and imagine I'm going to quickly become a regular on here. I'm trying to learn to create a member's login. I've taken a few tutorials to learn MySQL, PHPMyAdmin etc etc not important. I'm currently building and figuring out/modifying this member script. All is going relatively well until I try to put both a sign in and register form on the same page. The problem is that whenever an error message pops up (like the user leaving a field blank) both forms show the error message. Also, the error message is different depending on which form was clicked but they always show up in the "username" and "password" sections of both forms. Can anybody explain to me why this is or how to fix it? I tried to tinker with it creating two different processing files and messing around in the session.php file but I can't figure it out. I assume they're connected by a common element such as sharing a name or something but I really cannot seem to wrap my head around it. If anybody can explain to me what's happening I'd really appreciate it so I can know how to fix it since I plan to have multiple forms on other pages too. On top of that it's also causing formatting issues which I don't understand why, but I'll figure that out on my own after I learn how to disassociate the form errors from each other. I can fill out both forms no problem, I just can't make any errors when doing it or everything goes wrong. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me figure this out.
