installing gd on centos

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to php and linux.

I am trying to get gd (graphics library ) to work with centos  and have some basic questions since it's not working.

I basically did this:

]yum install php

]php -v

PHP 5.1.6 (cli) (built: Sep 20 2007 10:16:10)

Copyright © 1997-2006 The PHP Group

Zend Engine v2.1.0, Copyright © 1998-2006 Zend Technologies

then when I type

]php -m

I get this:

bz2

calendar

ctype

curl

date

exif

ftp

gettext

gmp

hash

iconv

ldap

libxml

mime_magic

openssl

pcntl

pcre

posix

pspell

Reflection

session

shmop

SimpleXML

sockets

SPL

standard

sysvmsg

sysvsem

sysvshm

tokenizer

wddx

xml

zlib

I don't see gd. How do I install it?

Do I have to compile the code with it? I was able to get it to work on Windows by adding the "extension=" but have no idea how to do it in linux. Can I do it without building php, since I'd rather not deal with source for now.

Another basic question, what is this command I see all over

"./configure", I saw it @ the gd FAQ.

./configure '--with-gd' '--with-png-dir=/usr' '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr' '--with-freetype-dir=/usr' '--with-zlib-dir=/usr'

is it a compilation directive?

thx!

tchau,

Gustavo.
