tobeyt23
I am trying to output my JSON array to the screen but am having a horrible time doing so. Here is my JSON array, how can I send this to the browser in a readable format? {"May 2008":{"New":{"Total":"163","Customer_List":["94262","94612","95002","95382","93912","94292","94662" RichardRotterdam
do you know this php function json_encode($phpArray); it creates a array in string format now you need to decode to a usable javascript array this is how it works with the mootools frame work its probably very similar in prototype var jsArray = Json.evaluate(jsonData); http://docs.mootools.net/Remote/Json.js I recommend using a javascript framework (such as prototype, mootools,jQuery or Dojo)since it usually has json functionality Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546654 Share on other sites
tobeyt23
I am using the json_encode. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546684 Share on other sites
rhodesa
There really is no way to print it out all pretty like PHP would with something like print_r(). You have to do your own recursive loops. Try something like this: <script type="text/javascript"> function json2html ( obj ) { var html = '<ul>'; for(var key in obj){ html += '<li>'; if(obj.constructor != Array) html += '<b>'+key+':</b> '; if(typeof obj[key] == 'object'){ html += json2html(obj[key]); }else html += obj[key]; html += '</li>'; } return html + '</ul>'; } document.write(json2html(obj)); </script> Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546691 Share on other sites
RichardRotterdam
like i said in the second part of the reply you need to decode the json array to a usable javascript array. because the json is in a string format. lets say your jsonstring looks like you posted <script> var jsonData="{"May 2008":{"New":{"Total":"163","Customer_List":["94262","94612","95002","95382","93912","94292","94662" etc...."; </script> <script> or probably like you are doing var jsonData='<?php echo(json_encode($phpArray));?>'; </script> now you need to decode it to a usable array like so <script> //decode data var jsArray = Json.evaluate(jsonData); </script> now you have a usable javascript array you can loop through Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546726 Share on other sites
tobeyt23
I'd tried your recursive loops and it still doesn't return everything. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546729 Share on other sites
RichardRotterdam
because your json is not an array yet its a string Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546733 Share on other sites

RichardRotterdam
this is what i get when i combine the function on the decoded json to jsarray # May 2008: * New: o Total: 163 o Customer_List: + 94262 + 94612 + 95002 + 95382 have you included the mootools script? <script> scr="mootools.js"</script> that should solve your problem or use this to decode your json http://www.devpro.it/JSON/files/JSON-js.html Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546766 Share on other sites

rhodesa
Do you have a copy of the page I can load in my browser? Or can you post the complete code for everything. It's tough to find your error without a copy I can load in my browser. RichardRotterdam
sure it can be done without mootools or the json.js include if you want to build youre own json decode function Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546789 Share on other sites
rhodesa
there is no need for a json_decode...by the time it hits "display: function(obj, section)", obj is an object NOT A STRING Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-546795 Share on other sites

tobeyt23
That works, just had to change json2html to display in the ajax.get. But Thank you, is there a way to lay this out into a table? rhodesa
Of course, you have to decide how you want it to look, then tweak those loops to display it as tables. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/106645-json/#findComment-547054 Share on other sites
tobeyt23
Ok i am new to JSON and am struggling with getting this to look the way I would like. I would like to be able to pull actually just what I want out and format it into a nice table layout. When this comes out now I am getting a customer list which I don't want. For example I the leads_by_month I just want the month, new and its total, used and its total and the total of used and new. Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
