ok, here's the story of what happened in the last week so that this doesn't seem like i am quite as stupid as i think that it will...

my parent's house burned down.  pretty much everything destroyed.  we found a computer where the ceiling had collapsed in on top of it (wet sheet-rock) so it was safe.  i pulled the photos off of the drive and made my parents happy!  YAY!!!

what i have been thinking about now is what it would take to start some kind of disaster recovery service in my area...i know that they are out there, and whatnot, but what would you need to start one.  i would want to be able to take care of logical corruption as well as physical.

what kinds of hard/software would you need to get?  how do you image a disk (or platter, i dont really know how all of that works) when you take it apart?

just a little thought that went through my mind as i sat at the phone today (i work at an inbound call center) doing nothing...
