jquery question

this is the first time i've ever tried anything with jquery. what i'm just testing out right now is i have a paragraph you click on that loads another page. while its loading this other paragraph becomes visible (that just says 'loading..') then fades out to show the new pages content. this is the code i have.... it works, but is there a better way to write it?

$(document).ready(function(){
$("#mkay").click(function(){
	$("#mkay").load(page);
});

$().ajaxSend(function(){
	$("#loading").show();
	$("#mkay").hide();
});

$().ajaxStop(function(){
	$("#loading").fadeOut("fast", function(){
		$("#mkay").show();
	});
});
});

it would also be a lot easier if i could just change whats inside the paragraph, like paragraph.innerHTML = something new. but i don't know how to do that with jquery
