yddib Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 Hi, We created the part in the middle where the login is. The rest is our college website which we would hope the page could be part of, however, the login no longer works. It worked fine without the college part around it. Can anyone see any obvious reasons? <html> <head> <meta content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>UCC: Alumni, Donors and Friends</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="4en.css" type="text/css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="43en.css" type="text/css" /> <title>4Grads.ie</title> </head> <body> <div id="crest"> <p class="hidden"><a href="#content">Skip to Content</a></p> <h1><a href="/en/"> <img src="http://www.ucc.ie/en/images/filedownload,2,en.gif" alt="UCC crest" width="200" height="100" border="0" /></a></h1> </div> <div id="search"> <table width="200" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" id="searchTable" summary="search"> <tr> <td class="searchIconCell"> <span class="searchIcon" style="font-size: .8em" ></span> </td> <td class="searchInputCell"> <input type="text" name="terms" class="searchInput" id="terms" size="20" /> </td> <td class="searchArrowCell"> <input type="submit" class="searchArrow" value=">" title="Perform Search" /> </td> </tr> </table> </div> <div id="language"> <span><a href="http://www.ucc.ie/ga/alumnidonorsfriends/">Gaeilge</a></span> <span><a href="http://www.ucc.ie/en/alumnidonorsfriends/">English</a></span> </div> <div id="mainMenu"> <span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/ProspectiveStudents/">Prospective Students</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/CurrentStudents/">Current Students</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/AcademicsandStaff/">Academics and Staff</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/VisitorstoUCC/">Visitors to UCC</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="http://www.ucc.ie/alumni">Alumni, Donors and Friends</a></span></span><span class="menuitem"><span class="currentsection">Alumni Social Network</span></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/Contacts/">Contacts</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/"></a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/PresidentsOffice/">President's Office</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/AboutUCCandCork/">About UCC and Cork</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/CollegesandDepartments/">Colleges and Departments</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/ResearchandIndustry/">Research and Industry</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="http://booleweb.ucc.ie/" target="_blank">Library</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/SupportandAdministration/">Support and Administration</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/Conferrings/">Conferrings</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="http://guide.ucc.ie">UCC Guide Online</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="/en/mandc/">Media and Communications</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="http://interactive.ucc.ie/ucc/" target="_blank">UCC tv</a></span><span class="menuitem"><a href="http://www.corkuniversitypress.com" target="_blank">Cork University Press</a></span> <div class="legal"> <p>Copyright © 2008 UCC<br/>The next four links open a new window<br/> <a href="http://www.ucc.ie/aup" target="_blank" class="legal">AUP</a> | <a href="http://www.ucc.ie/privacy" target="_blank" class="legal">Privacy</a> | <a href="mailto:abuse@ucc.ie" class="legal">Abuse</a> | <a href="mailto:webmaster@ucc.ie" class="legal">Webmaster</a> | <a href="http://www.ucc.ie/en/SiteMap/" class="legal">Site Map</a> | <a href="http://www.ucc.ie/en/Feedback/" class="legal">Feedback</a></p> </div> </div> <div id="header"> <h2>Alumni Social Network</h2><br /> </div> <div id="content"> <div align="center"> <center> <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="border-collapse: collapse" bordercolor="#111111" width="600" height="127" bordercolorlight="#C0C0C0" bordercolordark="#C0C0C0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <tr> <td width="792" height="137" align="center" valign="center" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="3"> <img src="http://www.4grads.net/ucc/translogo.jpg" /> <hr></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="112" height="39" valign="center" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" align="left"> <img border="0" src="http://www.4grads.net/ucc/friend.jpg" width="81" height="62"><font face="Arial"> </font> </td> <td width="356" height="39" valign="center" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" align="left"> <i><font face="Arial" style="font-size: 11pt">Stay in contact with college friends</font></i></td> <td rowspan="3" width="324" height="2" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><p align="center"> <b> <font face="Arial"><span style="font-size: 12pt">Log In:</span></font></b><p align="right" <form name="myForm" method="POST" action="exp.php" onSubmit="return validate1();"> <font face="Arial" style="font-size: 11pt">Email Address: </font> <INPUT TYPE="text" SIZE="20" name="user"><BR> <font face="Arial"><span style="font-size: 11pt">Password:</span> </font> <INPUT TYPE="password" SIZE="20" name="pass"><br/><br/> <input type="submit" value="Submit" name="B1" style="font-family: Arial; ngreenwood6 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 Do you get any errors? Does exp.php still exist? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
yddib Posted September 3, 2008 Author Share Posted September 3, 2008 No errors. Nothing at all happens when you click the submit button. It doesn't go anywhere!! ??? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
genericnumber1 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 you have onSubmit="return validate1();" without defining the validate1() javascript function... either make sure you include that js file that includes that function, or remove onSubmit="return validate1();". yddib Posted September 3, 2008 Author Share Posted September 3, 2008 We had a form validation but we took that out just to see if that was causing the problems! It wasn't!! Took out that onSubmit bit there but it made no difference. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ngreenwood6 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 Can you post what the exp.php file looks like so that we can see what is going on there? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
genericnumber1 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 if the form is not submitting at all, there's no other explanation but the onSubmit value (since you have no javascript on this page). If it IS submitting, but the login is malfunctioning, we'll need to see the exp.php to diagnose the problem. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
yddib Posted September 3, 2008 Author Share Posted September 3, 2008 I have deleted the onSubmit. When you click the submit button nothing happens. Here is the exp.php file: <?php $email = htmlentities($_POST['email']); $pass = htmlentities($_POST['pass']) ?> <html> <head> </head> <body> <?php mysql_connect("host", "username", "password") or die(mysql_error()); //connects to the blacknight server mysql_select_db("db"); //selects the database called 4grads print("<font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">"); print("<table style=\"BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse\" width=\"350\" border=\"2\">"); print("<tr><td width=\"2%\" bgColor=\"#b7d0e3\"><font size=\"2\">"); $result = @mysql_query("SELECT f_name, l_name, address1, county, country, telephone, stu_num, birthd, birthm, birthy, location FROM gradinfo where email ='$email' and pass ='$pass' "); if (!$result) { exit('<p>Error performing query: ' . mysql_error() . '</p>'); } print("<p> Maybe Image</p></font></td>"); print("<td width=\"98%\" bgColor=\"#eaf1f7\"><font size=\"2\"> <b>Personal Information </b><br/>"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo '<p> Name : ' . $row['f_name'].' '; echo $row['l_name'] . '</p>'; echo '<p> Address : ' .$row['address1'] .'<br/> ' ; echo .$row['county'] . '<br/>'; echo .$row['country'] . '</p>'; echo 'Telephone : ' .$row['telephone'] . '</p>'; echo 'Student Number : ' .$row['stu_num'] . '</p>'; echo '<p> Date of Birth : ' .$row['birthd'] . '|'; echo $row['birthm'] .'|' ; echo $row['birthy'] . '</p>'; echo '<p>Location : ' .$row['location'] . '</p>'; } print("</font></td></tr><tr><td widt\"100%\" colSpan=\"2\">"); print("<table borderColor=\"#111111\" cellPadding=\"15\" border=\"0\">"); print("<tr><td width=\"100%\"></font><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">Something else here</font></td>"); print("</tr></table></td></tr></table>"); ?> </body> </html> Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ngreenwood6 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 I tried it basically like this: <form name="myForm" method="POST" action="exp.php"> Email Address: <INPUT TYPE="text" SIZE="20" name="user"> <BR> Password: <INPUT TYPE="password" SIZE="20" name="pass"><br/><br/> <input type="submit" value="Submit" name="B1" style="font-family: Arial; font-weight: bold"> <input type="reset" value="Reset" name="B2" style="font-family: Arial; font-weight: bold"> </form> and it redirected me to the exp.php page. Is it taking you there? if not try dumbing down the code like I did. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
genericnumber1 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 when you say "nothing happens" does the page change at all, even if it's to a blank white page? or does it still just sit as if you haven't clicked submit at all? As I said in the opening comment, our login worked perfectly when it was just the login bit but when we added it to the college page with their menu, it stopped working. ngreenwood6 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 One thing I noticed was right before the <form> tag there is not an ending > for the <p> tag. Is it right on your end if not fix it and let us know. Meant to say its right after the "right". Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

yddib Posted September 3, 2008 Author Share Posted September 3, 2008 It has worked now......don't ask me how! I don't think we changed anything too major!! Could be something to do with the external css! Fixed now thanks!! Unless there are any CSS experts out there! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ngreenwood6 Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 The reason that it is working now is because the ending > was not letting the <form> actually render. Meaning that because that > was missing there was no beginning of the form because it that that was part of the <p> tag. If this is solved please mark the topic as solved unless you have some further questions. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
