PHP Error Message

I currently have a registration page that will check if the box was left empty and display an error on the same page but I'm trying to get it to check and see if the email exists in the database which it does and it works except it takes me to another page and tells me that its already registered. I want it to display the error on the same page. The code is below:

Where you are using die (error message)

try using instead echo (error message)

so:

if (my condition is met) {

echo (error messge) }

else {

//process my form

^^ was just an idea

OR make it easy, let it go to a new page and within your error message provide a javascript -1 history back link and instruct the user to go back and try again...

Here is an example of how I check a php form entry and throw an error which goes to a new page but provides a backlink (data entered on form is not lost):

Going back to die() causing it to redirect, it doesn't .. die() basically kills the script and prints out an error message if ones passed. must be something in the rest of the script?? Can't imagine what, it's an odd one...

well when I take out die it doesnt redirect.

I read your code but am not exactly sure how to use the back javascript code.

In this case perhaps, but die() does not redirect by normal...

something has to be causing it to redirect in that circumstance.. perhaps on error or something?

well I am redirecting to a thankyou.html after they register successfully.

The code below currently is what I am using to check if the email exists and if it does it goes to an error message page that just says the die message.

I have tried using echo but for some reason it is not working.

// checks if the email is registered

if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) {

$_POST['email'] = addslashes($_POST['email']);

}

$usercheck = $_POST['email'];

$check = mysql_query("SELECT email FROM dashboard_registration WHERE email = '$usercheck'") or die(mysql_error());

$check2 = mysql_num_rows($check);

//if the name exists it gives an error

if ($check2 != 0) {die('ERROR! The email '.$_POST['email'].' has already registered.');}

MY ECHO CODE! IS THIS INCORRECT?
