Suggestions Needed: Keep track of viewed photos across users

Recommended Posts

Alright, just looking for some suggestions here.  I have a site that is mainly accessed by family, in which photos are uploaded and whatnot.  What I want to do is be able to keep track of which photos each user has viewed so that apon login, I can say wether or not there are photos to view.  So when John logs in, it will say that Cindy has posted two new pictures he has yet to view.

Now what would be a good way to store this info in the database?  No help coding it here... I can do all that... I just can't think of a good way to store what users have viewed what photos or not without being wasteful and having a giant table.

Thanks!
