Good social networking scripts consists of thousands of features and are complex solutions. Why don't you want to use a ready made script? You can use JomSocial, for example. It is a plugin for Joomla. Or a commercial Script. Say Chameleon http://chameleon.startsocialnetwork.com/. Actually there are a lot of such scripts available. Just search.
