which version of apache and php

I am new to the php platform can you advice me which version of apache and php i should install.

I am using windows xp pro with 32bite

if you are brand new, i would keep it simple and use:

i have installed the wampserver but i receive the below warnings,

More Information... This error occurs when the file extension of the requested URL is for a MIME type that is not configured on the server. You can add a MIME type for the file extension for files that are not dynamic scripting pages, database, or configuration files. Process those file types using a handler. You should not allows direct downloads of dynamic scripting pages, database or configuration files.

Would appear you also have IIS running. You can't have two webservers listening at the same time.

do i need to take the IIS off from windows.

i have also installed on another machine( windows xp pro, my main machine) the wampserver but on fireworks when i try to see the localhost it asks username and password as i dont remember that i have set up one.

 

do you have any comments what could be the reason.

Why would you want both?  If you already have IIS installed you can run php with it.  Otherwise, I would suggest you remove it.
