Before I say anything else, I'm not very good with php.. but I'm trying to learn!

I'm trying to create a simple search script to search a .Log file, I have searched this section of the forum but I didn't quite find anything related.

The search field will be on a .cgi page in a cgi folder named; /cgi-dev/, the .log file is located in a /home/ directory of the server. Can anyone give me some pointers to how I may go about this?

if you put a pattern in log file ,you can do this with regex. Otherwise you can search for term but you get just the term entered.

$str = 'entry: bla bla bla search bla entry: bla bla other things bla';

$rgx = '/^(entry:\s.*' . $searh . ')entry:\s$/';

which means you get the line contains the search term. The string you get is everything between ().
