ddkerp Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 hi friends pls help me iam using abyss webserver, mysql 5, PHP version >= 4.1.2 in localhost i wrote a login script which contains md5 encryption for password. (This script works fine when i upload it to server) but in localhost md5 function is not working and the script doesnot show any error. all the other functions r working except md5. it seems the md5 function is not supported. when i echoed the variable which contains md5 encrypted password, it echoes nothing. here is the code <?php // Connects to your Database mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("dilip1") or die(mysql_error()); //This code runs if the form has been submitted if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { //This makes sure they did not leave any fields blank if (!$_POST['username'] | !$_POST['pass'] | !$_POST['pass2'] ) { die('You did not complete all of the required fields'); } // checks if the username is in use if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) { $_POST['username'] = addslashes($_POST['username']); } $usercheck = $_POST['username']; $check = mysql_query("SELECT username FROM logininfo WHERE username = '$usercheck'") or die(mysql_error()); $check2 = mysql_num_rows($check); //if the name exists it gives an error if ($check2 != 0) { die('Sorry, the username '.$_POST['username'].' is already in use.'); } $email=strpos($_POST['email'],"@"); if ($email<1){ die('enter valid mail id'); } if (strlen($_POST['pass'])<6) { die ("password length must not be less than 6 chars"); } // this makes sure both passwords entered match if ($_POST['pass'] != $_POST['pass2']) { die('Your passwords did not match. '); } // here we encrypt the password and add slashes if needed $_POST['pass'] = md5($_POST['pass']); if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) { $_POST['pass'] = addslashes($_POST['pass']); $_POST['username'] = addslashes($_POST['username']); } // now we insert it into the database $insert = "INSERT INTO logininfo (username, password, email) VALUES ('".$_POST['username']."', '".$_POST['pass']."','".$_POST['email']."')"; $add_member = mysql_query($insert); ?> <h1>Registered</h1> <p>Thank you, you have registered - you may now login</a>.</p> <p align="left"><a href="/server/login/login.php"><font face="Arial Narrow" size="4" color="#000000">Click here to login</font></a></p> <?php } else { ?> <form action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post"> <table border="0"> <tr><td>Username:</td><td> <input type="text" name="username" maxlength="60"> </td></tr> <tr><td>Password:</td><td> <input type="password" name="pass" maxlength="10"> </td></tr> <tr><td>Confirm Password:</td><td> <input type="password" name="pass2" maxlength="10"> </td></tr> <tr><td>Email:</td><td> <input type="email" name="email" maxlength="60"> </td></tr> <tr><th colspan=2><input type="submit" name="submit" value="Register"></th></tr> </table> </form> <?php } ?> Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/155227-solved-md5-not-workin-in-localhost/ Share on other sites More sharing options...

wildteen88 Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 Where does it say md5 not supported? What is the code you're using? Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/155227-solved-md5-not-workin-in-localhost/#findComment-816630 Share on other sites More sharing options...

jackpf Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 Works for me. Try putting this in: echo $_POST['pass']; You'll see it's suitably hashed. Well...you should do. PFMaBiSmAd Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 About the only time that variables get overwritten and there is no code doing it is when register_globals are on. Is that all the code involved? Do you actually have some code using a variable named $pass in your database connection or do you have a cookie set that is named pass? What does a phpinfo() statement show for the register_globals setting? Mchl Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 BTW: Adding slashes to md5 hash is pointless Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/155227-solved-md5-not-workin-in-localhost/#findComment-816697 Share on other sites More sharing options...
jackpf Posted April 23, 2009 Share Posted April 23, 2009 What version of php have you got? If not the latest, upgrade to that, and then try it again. It'll definitely have register globals turned off and all the newest cryptographic extensions bundled in with it (although you should have MD5 by default anyway). In my database i set "password" field length to 30. when i increased it to 40 .the sript works fine. The length of md5 hash value is 32 Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/155227-solved-md5-not-workin-in-localhost/#findComment-817539 Share on other sites More sharing options...
revraz Posted April 23, 2009 Share Posted April 23, 2009 Yep, so set it to 32, no need to set to 40. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/155227-solved-md5-not-workin-in-localhost/#findComment-817565 Share on other sites More sharing options...
