The Little Guy
On my family computer, my family has thousands of images, all sorted into different folders. Some folders have 550+ images in them, and the image size is roughly 3MB/image. In some folders, when it is opened, the windows stops responding "Window Name (Not Responding)" then after 45+ seconds of waiting, it finally starts responding and shows all of the files in the folder. Sometimes, it restarts the explorer process. Anyone know how to fix this problem? .josh
group them in subfolders so you aren't having to have them all loaded at once. get more ram. akitchin
my guess would be to set it to a "details" view by default. if it's on thumbnails or a similar "friendly" kind of view, it has to construct all those when the window is opened. otherwise, maybe try to search for processes running in the background that are stealing CPU/memory. The Little Guy
They are in sub folders they are like this: "My Pictures" -> "Some Theme1" -> Pict1.jpg, Pict2.jpg... "My Pictures" -> "Some Theme2" -> Pict1.jpg, Pict2.jpg... "My Pictures" -> "Some Theme3" -> Pict1.jpg, Pict2.jpg... "My Pictures" -> "Some Theme..." -> Pict1.jpg, Pict2.jpg... Is there any settings that maybe XP is using, that I could disable? I have done this: http://www.technixupdate.com/fix-slow-opening-of-my-computer-in-win-xp-and-delayed-contens-display/ And I have "Do not cache thumbnails" checked in folder options, but they still open fairly slow, but slightly faster then they did be for. And it is set as "List View" Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/160520-xp-folders-take-forever-to-open/#findComment-847142 Share on other sites
akitchin
at first glance, i would presume that caching thumbnails would actually speed up your loading in the accidental case that one folder is set to thumbnail display. Is there any settings that maybe XP is using, that I could disable? you're probably more likely to find stuff on google for this than here. perhaps you need to split them up through even more subfolders. The Little Guy
at first glance, i would presume that caching thumbnails would actually speed up your loading in the accidental case that one folder is set to thumbnail display. according to many sites I find online, they say that this speeds it up. I feel it does this because it doesn't have to create a cached image thumb, which I think is created every time the folder loads. Then it makes it so while the folder is open images don't have to refresh when you scroll past them then scroll back to them. The Little Guy
Nice! I think I found a solution, but it only works for one folder at a time... You can still set the display of a folder manually by right-clicking on the folder and choosing Properties. Click on the Customize tab and choose from the list (Documents, Pictures, Photo Album, Music, etc) It opened up the folder almost instantly! Adam
at first glance, i would presume that caching thumbnails would actually speed up your loading in the accidental case that one folder is set to thumbnail display. according to many sites I find online, they say that this speeds it up. Loading the images into a cache file every time the folder loads, would surely defeat the object of a cache file?
