Eddy_P
Computer purchased 1st January 2009 CPU EP45-UD3 BIOS Version F2 Intel ATX E8400 Core 2 DUO 3.00GHz 6MB 1333FSB LGA775 2.00 GB of RAM Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 3 Problem History 1). 9 June 2009 After about half an hour of the computer being turned on: EasyTune6 started to give CPU Fan speed alert that RPM was 0. It would then jump straight back to around 800 rpm. A little time later, it would go off again, then immediately back to around 800 rpm. I checked the CPU temp which happily stayed around 27 - 36 degrees centigrade. During the past three months this has changed from one or two alerts in a row to many in one session. This problem comes and goes, but happens at least once per day. 2). 29 July 2009 When the computer is switched on, it beeps about 20 times. It then tries to power up (blue lights on & off and yellow lights on CD Drive on & off) It fails to come on then turns off. After about 2 seconds it tries again. This goes on & on until it somehow starts up. About 1 in 3 times the computer starts without beeping. 8 August 2009 a new BIOS battery was installed. Message about voltage change given. Previous BIOS settings re-applied. 3). 12 August 2009 Once finally started (after all the beeps etc), up came a message in a red box on a blue screen: “Main BIOS Checksum error”. After acknowledging this, the computer started up and seemed OK. Previous BIOS settings re-applied (on Aug 21) 4). 29 August 2009 Computer now beeps 22 times (as per item 2.) and does this about five times, then starts up. This happens every time now. At one startup, a ‘voltage change’ message was given. 5). 3 September 2009 Every 20 or so seconds the computer freezes for about 10 seconds. Once rebooted the problem went away. It has not come back (yet). Is my 8 month old computer trying to tell me something ? .josh
It's saying you should have taken it back for another one back when it first started giving you issues. my first guess is you either don't have the right power box (like maybe your comp needs 300Mhz and your box is only 200Mhz or something) or else it's bad. captbeagle
Well, here's a list of beep codes for the AMI, Pheonix, IBM and Award BIOSes. http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml If it's beeping 22 times, I'd guess that either it beeped 11 times twice (meaning bad cache memory. An error in the level 2 cache memory.), though I'm not sure why it'd beep twice, or that it would be a continuous beep that isn't as continuous as one might expect. If it's the latter, you've got a problem with your video or memory. What manufacturer assembled your computer and who is the producer of your BIOS?
