[SOLVED] Error Creating Socket

I'm trying to learn about sockets, however I can't seem to get very far. I'm getting:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: socket_create() in /socket.php on line 2

Code:

if($socket = socket_create(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0)) {
echo "worked";
} else {
echo "failed";
}
?>

 

It appears I can't even create the socket.. is there anything I have to do in advance to create a socket?

You might need to add extension=php_sockets.dll to you php.ini if you're under Windows.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not.. but I have my web-hosting from 1and1. I'm not sure if my shared hosting makes a difference with sockets or not. However, I do believe that they are running under linux.
