I am trying to use strstr() to find strings in HTML code but can't seem to do it without also picking up the alt tags from pictures and things like that. Can anyone please suggest a way of getting rid of the HTML for the purposes of analysis?

I have used striptags() and it's not really reliable enough.

Oh, I agree... if I wanted to delete the HTML, that's fine, but I don't want to get rid of the HTML, I want to find words within it, replace them and then output the entire HTML, including the new, replaced words... the only issue is that the HTML tags contains some of the words I am replacing (like the alt tags that copy the header tag of a database record).
