Mchl
Dual or quad core CPU, lots of RAM for MySQL. One hdd for OS, two HDDs for data (in RAID 1 for safety). Linux based system and you should be fine. You should also think about data backup. trq
We have at least 5-8 older machines where I work serving up different intranet applications (as well as a bunch of bigger actual servers for the more important stuff). I know they are all p4 800mhz or older and they probably only have around 512mg of ram. I haven't got any actual figures but we have some 400+ people employed where I work so I'm sure these machines would be server quite a bit of traffic. These aren't however business critical applications. I find it pretty hard to believe that a PC would have trouble with 5 connections at a time but then again I guess it depends on what the hardware is exactly.
