Hi chayan19,

A strong knowledge of HTML/XHTML is vital. What you are ultimately producing as a web developer is HTML, so you need to know a lot about it.

If you want to specialise in server side development, I wouldn't spend too much time learning CSS. That is a pretty specialised area and becoming proficient in HTML, CSS and a server side language is a lot to take on.

Javascript is a good language to learn. It is the only language that allows you to manipulate a web page without reloading and it often goes hand-in-hand with a dynamic server side language like PHP. Although the syntax is different to PHP, both languages are similar in a lot of respects so it is not too taxing to learn them in tandem.

Only think about Flash if you want to be a Flash developer. Flash is a totally specialist area and unless you are familiar with Java, you will have a huge learning curve, though you may take to it like a duck to water, who knows. If you do you are unlikely to be too interested in PHP.

If you want to be a server side developer then my advice as a senior web developer is to learn HTML and PHP. If you perfer working on client side development then master CSS and HTML. A good knowledge of Javascript is pretty important for either.
