deepson2
Hello, I was just wondering that how youtube 's "Recommended for you" logic works. like it checked all the urls /videos you have watched last time(logged in time) and next time when users logs in, it ll show him/her the related those videos(probably most popular) he/she had watched earlier. i was just wanted to know its rough idea that how it works. Can anyone tell me how it works? Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/193431-how-this-youtube-application-works/ Share on other sites

Mchl
Rough idea would be like you say. Also it might take into account channels you're subscribed to. deepson2
Thanks for your reply mchl. Could you please elaborate your point here- it might take into account channels you're subscribed to. Mchl
Knowing what channels you're subscribed to, it can compare what other people subscribed to same channels like. deepson2
But I don't think we need to activate any subscription for it or something? because whatever we checks like php tutorial video and then we logged out and when we comes back and do logged in again it ll show more videos related to php tutorial. what you think? trq
Its probably much like a tags system. Videos are tagged with descriptive terms, the app searches for related vids by tag. Easy enough to store a few of these tags in a cookie so that next time you come back it remembers you. salathe
Chances are that they're also recording which other videos other people came from (or went to) for videos you recently watched. Those can then be ranked and act as part of the recommendation engine. Whether that's the case or not, I'd recon the system in place on YouTube is pretty complex and non-trivial to recreate. deepson2
Thanks for the reply to both of you. Yes i was thinking something similar like if i can check the categories of what user has seen the videos before so i can store them and next time show them the most recent videos belong to that particular category. Anyways i have got the logic. Thank you.
