Please! My site is being abused, and I can't get this code to work!

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to get this proxy to work. I own a site where people can earn points, but they are just using proxies to by-pass everything, and get all the points they want! But I'm trying to take action by including a script that block proxies, I have no errors, but it just doesn't seem to be working!

I did everything EXACTLY the way they told me to in this: (Editing nothing but the .log file, and all I did was change permissions)

My site: http://friction.comuf.com/ (Yes, I still have the script on there.) Whenever I used http://www.air-proxy.com (just to test the script), it still lets my through. Can anyone help?

The headers that script detects are only set by legitimate proxy servers (i.e. the proxy servers that want you to know they are proxy servers), such as a proxy server that a company would setup to serve as a gateway for all the internal lan connections.

That script does not detect 'silent' web proxy servers that are used to make it appear that requests to your site are coming form different IP addresses.

Trying to solve this by detecting requests that come from web proxies is only workable if you already have or are willing to make a list (which would happen after the abuse has already occurred) of the thousands of web proxy servers.

You need to use a different approach of determining how points are earned and of detecting abuse and we would need to know more about the who, what, when, where, and why in order to be able to help.

hmm I'm not exactly sure what you do with your site or how it works but it sounds like you need a way to tell your clients apart by using a login system or by giving them a customer code that they put in a url variable $_GET

just a thought
