One day you were surfing through the cyberspace with your old web browser and came across a site of interest, you ventured into the homepage and saw some pretty pictures and bits of text and a little tab on the side of the screen that read "read me" and when you clicked it opened up to read....

"Hello, it appears that you are using a web browser that is quite old. You really should update it  ... blah blah blah"

Then when you clicked the close it disappeared.

If you are one of the people that has an old browser how would you take this little tab on the side of the screen?

If loads of sites had this little un-obnoxious tab on every page, do you think more people would update?

no, people with ie6 or lower are probably not gonna change until their computer explodes and they get a new one preloaded with something better.

people who still have ie6 do not care about their web surfing experience at all. they just want whatever info they are searching for and then probably turning off their computer (in most cases, theres always an exception).
