If you're using the 'Back' button, of course it will redisplay the info. Right now, I'm just trying to get you to a point that the script actually deletes the selected record from the database. Once we accomplish that, then we can move on to presenting a success/failure message, and redirecting to an appropriate page thereafter. Pikachu2000 Posted June 19, 2010 Share Posted June 19, 2010 First thing I see is that there nested tags, and neither of them get closed. <form action=insert.php is opened, then shortly after, <form action=admin.php is opened. That may not be causing all of your problems, but I'll bet it isn't helping. When you click the delete button, what page shows in the address bar of the browser? jcbones Posted June 19, 2010 Share Posted June 19, 2010 I just tested on my test server. Using a double form with no closing tag, will send the data to the first form action. In this case "Insert.php". Good eye Pik. Edit: I'm betting you see the admin.php because you have a redirect in "insert.php". Pikachu2000 Posted June 19, 2010 Share Posted June 19, 2010 I think a lot of the problem here is that we don't have all of the code. This script is include()d in another script, and we can't tell what really needs to be done. WIthout being able to see ALL of the code that is being executed, it's nothing but a craps shoot. Please post the all of the relevant code so we can actually be of some help to you. dsjoes Posted June 19, 2010 Author Share Posted June 19, 2010 that is all of the script the only script i have not list is the insert.php which has nothing to do with the delete script it is for adding to the database and the css style page. insert.php <?php $con = mysql_connect("host","user","pass"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("KAW", $con); $sql="INSERT INTO Target(Target, Comment) VALUES ('$_POST[Target]','$_POST[Comment]')"; if (!mysql_query($sql,$con)) { die('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } echo "Record added"; header('Location: admin.php'); mysql_close($con) ?> and the css @charset "utf-8"; body { font: 100%/1.4 Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background: #000000; margin: 0; padding: 0; color: #fff; } /* ~~ Element/tag selectors ~~ */ ul, ol, dl { /* Due to variations between browsers, it's best practices to zero padding and margin on lists. For consistency, you can either specify the amounts you want here, or on the list items (LI, DT, DD) they contain. Remember that what you do here will cascade to the .nav list unless you write a more specific selector. */ padding: 0; margin: 0; } h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p { margin-top: 0; /* removing the top margin gets around an issue where margins can escape from their containing div. The remaining bottom margin will hold it away from any elements that follow. */ padding-right: 15px; padding-left: 15px; /* adding the padding to the sides of the elements within the divs, instead of the divs themselves, gets rid of any box model math. A nested div with side padding can also be used as an alternate method. */ } a img { /* this selector removes the default blue border displayed in some browsers around an image when it is surrounded by a link */ border: none; } /* ~~ Styling for your site's links must remain in this order - including the group of selectors that create the hover effect. ~~ */ a:link { color: #42413C; text-decoration: underline; /* unless you style your links to look extremely unique, it's best to provide underlines for quick visual identification */ } a:visited { color: #6E6C64; text-decoration: underline; } a:hover, a:active, a:focus { /* this group of selectors will give a keyboard navigator the same hover experience as the person using a mouse. */ text-decoration: underline; } /* ~~ This fixed width container surrounds all other divs ~~ */ .container { width: 960px; background: #000000; margin: 0 auto; /* the auto value on the sides, coupled with the width, centers the layout */ } /* ~~ The header is not given a width. It will extend the full width of your layout. It contains an image placeholder that should be replaced with your own linked logo. ~~ */ .header { background: #000000; } /* ~~ These are the columns for the layout. ~~ 1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design. 2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin. 3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document. 4) If you prefer your nav on the right instead of the left, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all right instead of all left) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source. */ .sidebar1 { float: left; width: 180px; background: #000000; padding-bottom: 10px; } .content { padding: 10px 0; width: 600px; float: left; } .sidebar2 { float: left; width: 180px; background: #000000; padding: 10px 0; } /* ~~ This grouped selector gives the lists in the .content area space ~~ */ .content ul, .content ol { padding: 0 15px 15px 40px; /* this padding mirrors the right padding in the headings and paragraph rule above. These may be adjusted as you wish. */ } /* ~~ The navigation list styles (can be removed if you choose to use a premade flyout menu like Spry) ~~ */ ul.nav { list-style: none; /* this removes the list marker */ border-top: none; /* this creates the top border for the links - all others are placed using a bottom border on the LI */ margin-bottom: 15px; /* this creates the space between the navigation on the content below */ } ul.nav li { border-bottom: none; /* this creates the button separation */ } ul.nav a, ul.nav a:visited { /* grouping these selectors makes sure that your links retain their button look even after being visited */ padding: 5px 5px 5px 15px; display: block; /* this gives the anchor block properties so it fills out the whole LI that contains it so that the entire area reacts to a mouse click. */ width: 100px; /*this width makes the entire button clickable for IE6. dsjoes Posted June 26, 2010 Author Share Posted June 26, 2010 i have created the the page again from scratch with a new database and i have added a bit and tested it as i went along and i think i have found the problem. this is the test page called test.php

Admin

<?php date_default_timezone_set('Europe/London'); $today = date("l dS \of F Y h:i A (T)"); echo $today; ?>

The admin page logs you out automatically after 30 minutes.

Admin

Enter the targets name and comment here.

Target:  Comment:

To delete a target click on the check box and then on delete.

<?php $host="host"; // Host name $username="user"; // Mysql username $password="pass"; // Mysql password $db_name="Test"; // Database name $tbl_name="Targets"; // Table name        // Connect to server and select databse.     mysql_connect("$host", "$username", "$password")or die("cannot connect");     mysql_select_db("$db_name")or die("cannot select DB");        // Build SQL query     if(!isset($_POST['delete'])) $sql="SELECT * FROM $tbl_name ORDER BY ID";     else {         $sql = "DELETE FROM $tbl_name WHERE";         // add row id to where section         for($i=0;$i<count($_POST['checkbox']);$i++){             if($i != 0) $sql.= "AND ";             $sql .= " ID='" . $_POST['checkbox'][$i] . The part above is to add to the database.  this is the insert.php script <?php $con = mysql_connect("host","user","pass"); if (!$con)  {  die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error());  } mysql_select_db("KAW", $con); $sql="INSERT INTO Target(Target, Comment) VALUES ('$_POST[Target]','$_POST[Comment]')"; if (!mysql_query($sql,$con))  {  die('Error: ' . mysql_error());  } echo "Record added"; header('Location: admin.php'); mysql_close($con) ?>  Anyone Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/203991-help-with-deleting-from-sql-database/page/2/#findComment-1077678 Share on other sites More sharing options...
