Shawn Gossman
So I run a twitter-like site using the open source software known as Sharetronix (www.sharetronix.com). The software has most of the twitter features except for the ability for members to use SMS and texting. I want to develop (well me and our more experienced development architect) a sms/text feature for our site. What all software and webmaster stuff will I need to dive in to do this? Mainly, this post is for research into this project. My twitter like site is over 110 members in not even 3 months and growing by the day, but it is a NICHE-based site for a certain topic of interest. Many members have asked about an sms/text feature and I am wanting to look more into it and learn more about it. Any tips, info, links and so on would be great! And a very thank you much in advance! zq29
You'll need to have access to an SMS gateway to send the messages, for any worthwhile service level, you'll be paying for it. I'm not sure where you are in the world, but here in the UK I have used a company called Esendex in the past with good results - Just make sure they have some kind of API and documentation.
