my websites are super plain , i need advice on how i can jazz them up with desig

hi, i have 2 sites. that are pretty much just plain php. i was wondering how i could jazz them up with a design? im not a designer but i know some photoshop and a lot of css.

I'm not that much of a designer either, but my best advice would be to go around to popular websites and see how they do things to help you get ideas.

I was doing a test to see how google ads work with in a site. It's a top 10 style site, don't know if this would help:

Also, my first php page ever was a submit and rate style. It's a very simplified website so maybe it would be the next step for you?
