AncientSage
Trying to find a forum software that is fast in the way of server-sided scripts, however, I'm having a hard time doing so. I don't want to pay for the software, but I don't want slow software either.Currently using phpBB 2.21, however, it's slow with how many modifications are on it. Luckly phpBB 3 seems a bit faster than my current version of phpBB 2.21. So yeah, what is the fastest GNU forum with a good variety of features? wildteen88
If you have a ton of mods installed on your phpBB forum than thats your problem. Or it could your server is low spec. However using phpBB isnt such a good idea either. We use SMF here which is free and is light weight compared to phpBB. AncientSage
Server specs:
cPanel 10.8.2-S120Apache 1.3.37Spam Assasin 3.1phpMyAdmin 2.8.0.2PHP 5.1.6PERL 5.8.7MySQL 5.0.24-standardProcessor Name: AMD Opteron 170 [2GHz] (Dual core)Operating System: CentOS 4.4 i686Memory Information: ECC Registered 1024 MB RAM
The server load is usually around 0.1 through 0.8, I know I have a ton of mods on the forum, I'll probably be ditching quite a few on a switch to phpBB3.And thanks, I'll look into SMF, I'll just need to find out how to add on to them and such, though. Loki
If your just looking for a stand alone forum, I would highly recommend SMF. Although I run integrated phpbb forums in my CMS, I probably would not run phpbb as stand alone do to the security issues.
