Insert query

Hi,

I have some questions regarding INSERT query. First of all, can I query 2 INSERT command? Is it practical?

$query = "INSERT INTO practice_user (name, email, password, dob, category, comments) VALUES ('$name', '$email', '$password', '$dob', '$category', '$comments')";

  $result = mysqli_query($dbc, $query)

    or die(mysql_error());

$query2 = "INSERT INTO location (name) VALUES ('$location')";

  $result = mysqli_query($dbc, $query2)

    or die(mysql_error());

Secondly, in order to JOIN these 2 tables, I have decided to join primary key 'user_id' in 'practice_user' with the foreign key 'user_id' in 'location'.  'user_id' in 'practice_user' is auto-incremental.

My question is, how am I suppose to insert 'user_id' value into 'location' table, as I will not know what value does the 'practice_user' table generate for the 'user_id', only after executing the command, then the system will auto-generate a value into 'practice_user' 'user_id'.

Thanks

Hi Pikachu2000,

Thank you so much for the advice, but how do I use mysqli_insert_id() into the first query?

$query = "INSERT INTO practice_user (name, email, password, dob, category, comments) VALUES ('$name', '$email', '$password', '$dob', '$category', '$comments')";

Please kindly advice. Thank you
