phprocker
I'm curious, since the nofollow attribute essentially raises the integrity of a webpage, does Google "reward" these pages with better SERs?
JonnoTheDev
I'm curious, since the nofollow attribute essentially raises the integrity of a webpage Where did you get that information from? nofollow simply prevents Google from passing any pagerank or anchor text keywords through the link. Spiders will not follow the target link from the source. It does not stop the target pages getting indexed if they are linked to from other sites or have been submitted to Google. phprocker
I understand what nofollow does. I'm asking if Google considers it's use on web pages to raise that page's trust and integrity.
.josh
"nofollow" does not raise the integrity of your page. It is just a mechanism to help you control how your own "reputation" on google is passed along, whether or not you vouch for the content/site the link is for. http://static.googleusercontent.com/external_content/untrusted_dlcp/www.google.com/en/us/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf page 22 : Be aware of rel="nofollow" for links It does not specifically say you get "rewarded" for doing it, just that it helps prevent possible punishment, because if you link to shady sites, that could in turn lower your own rep. phprocker
Ya I figured that. I WANT a reward for being a responsible web designer.
.josh
best way to be "rewarded" is by providing quality content and using the most relevant keywords in the appropriate places (including bidding on them through adwords) for that content.
