PHP and high traffic websites

I have seen an article that says Yahoo use many servers for PHP especially to distibute the traffic and be able to deal with it, while technologies such as .NET can handle that high traffic easily!

Do you have any credible stats to back this? Servers handle requests, and large sites, will need more servers to do so. Doesn't really matter what language the site is written in.
