I signed up for an account today and accidentally typed my password in wrong (i think 3 times) and I get the error message

Sorry, you are out of login chances. Please come back and try again later.

OK, I understand the use for brute force protection and I am all for it, but 8+ hours (so far, and counting) just for typing my password in a few wrong times? I think 10 minutes sounds more sensible. Any bots will have long moved on after that and the ones that continue abusing it, block them for a month or something, but regular users should not be affected. I had to connect to a proxy server just to post this.

Also, it doesn't even say how long the ban is for. This would also help people. Why not say "Your IP has been blocked for $x minutes" where $x is an integer < say 20

On another note, I am able to log into the regular phpfreaks.com website. What use is a brute force protection thing on the forum if people can continue to try to log in on the website?

P.S. Hello! First post, yay!

I know we've had some pretty big hits from bots lately, It's possible a setting was changed to counter that, but it does sound excessive. I'm sure one of the admins will be looking into it.

i have been trying to log in for a few days now.. i thought i had an account already made so i tried them.. got banned.. next day i registered and tried activating via the link they sent to my email, i didnt work so i tried entering user info.. got banned.. today though i finally got in!! :)
