joe92
We have a small team across a small network and we are all using FileZilla to upload and download files. However, things become a bit complicated and risky when members of the team start working away from the office. Risky in the sense that two members might work on the same file at the same time and one of the members changes will be wiped when the second member uploads their changes. I am guessing this problem may have been solved somehow already... I am basically looking for a program in which a member can say they are working on a file and it locks. Only he/she may then upload that file. Once uploaded, it unlocks again. Everyone would have to be logged into the program (and it will display who is logged in) to be able to make any changes and the project manager can unlock a file at their will (a chat feature would be a bonus). Does anyone know of such a program or website which offers this? I have come across the eclipse 'watch' feature, however this only notifies you that they are working on a file. It does not offer what I am looking for. Thank you Joe
trq
Sounds to me like you need a version control system. There are plenty around. Git is flavor of the month at the moment is is becoming more and more popular by the minute, Subversion is also another popular choice.
