agga.gaag
Dear all,I am a newbe PHP developer. I wonder if there exists a code-by-example thing, ie a ready project written in PHP that would help new developers to delve headfirst into development by industry standards based on a proven example. I know that appFuse offers such an opportunity for Java coders. What I am really looking for is a ready industry-standard application based on Smarty and MySQL with clear comments inside. A photo gallery or a small presentation/news site, maybe. Something that will show how to build a good application from scratch and incorporate all the good practices. Is there one you know of? Daniel0
I don't know what you mean, but if you want to view something I think is good practices and good coding style, then check IceBB's source: http://svn.sourceforge.net/icebbIt do not use Smarty, and it is probably not very well-commented (depending on your experience), but you could take a look anyways. printf
There are many well documented projects out there, but none them follow any standard, because there is no clearly defined coding standard in PHP. In Java and C and other languages like JavaScript, their are consortiums that recommend certain guidelines be followed so that application can be used by a wider audience, but still even there, you will not find a true standard to follow!I remember what Tim B. Lee told me many years ago when I worked under him, he said dot your i's and cross your t's, and never use shortcuts, just because a language gives you shortcuts does not mean you should use them, because readability is just as important as logical execution. You should search at SourceForge.net, and find something you want to do, and then read through the code to get a understanding of what it is doing, but still don't ever believe it is following a standard, because coding logic is always based on ones ability and nothing more!me! Daniel0
If you are making PEAR modules then there is, but as printf said, there is no actual correct way of coding.
