COUNT mySQL statement

Currently I have the following code which works fine.

<?php
// Make a MySQL Connection
$query = "SELECT playerID, name, COUNT(balls_faced), SUM(runs), MAX(runs) FROM matchPlayer WHERE teamID='$_SESSION[teamID]' GROUP BY playerID";
$result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());
?>

That I can do fine but I still need two things -

A) I need to COUNT how many times the column 'balls_faced' has a value AND the column 'how_out' has no value.

B) I need to COUNT how many times the column 'runs' has a value of 50 (or over)

Can I do these two things in my $query or is it better to simply do other queries?
