Nexusfactor
Hello My name is Charles I recently installed Wamp on my computer and selected Start All Services. I typed Localhost into my browser but it comes back saying HTTP Error 404. I checked my hosts file here is what I found. # Copyright © 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. 127.0.0.1 localhost Not sure what else to do. I don't have Skype installed, a little Google Searching revealed to turn off Skype if it isn't working. I don't know what else to do. Pikachu2000
The file needs to be saved with no extension. If you've saved it that way, see if you can ping localhost from the command line.
Nexusfactor
I pinged local host and it worked. I still can't see local host in my browser though
Pikachu2000
Come to think of it, that wasn't even necessary; if you're getting a 404 error, the webserver is running and accessible. Do you have an index.html file in the document root?
Nexusfactor
Yes I do.
Pikachu2000
Do you see it if you browse to it with the filename, like http://localhost/index.html (or whatever it actually is)?
Nexusfactor
I do not see it at all. I get the Error 404 Message.
