Is a Search engine using a textbox the same as a search engine using a form?

I want to know how to display results from mysql database by filling in a form. but i have found a tutorial which shows typing in a text box which displays results. if i follow this tutorial will it help me to understand and create php coding to display results for my form?

A text field is a form element.

its just that in the tutorial he only has a text box, but i have a form which includes drop down lists, radial buttons, will this tutorial still be useful for me?

There really isn't any way to answer that question. You should try it and see if you find it helpful or not.
