Aravinthan
Hi, I am running a fantasy league and I was wondering how is it possible to calculate the chances of a team to make it to the playoffs? There is 10 teams and the top 8 will make it to the playoffs. Thank you, Ara Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/261058-calculating-playoffs-odd/ Share on other sites
xyph
8/10 = .80 = 80% A team has an 80% chance to make the play-offs based on those numbers alone Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/261058-calculating-playoffs-odd/#findComment-1337927 Share on other sites

chipper
Are you looking to determine just the relative probability odds of each team making the playoffs? Or whether or not specific teams have mathematically clinched a playoff spot, other eliminated, etc..? There is at least one phone-app that does the former and probably other programs available, or its not too difficult to make a program via spreadsheet that goes through the remaining schedule with random outcomes a set (say 10,000) times to determine how many times each team finishes in the top 8. For the latter, do a search for "calculating playoff clinch" or similar wording. I'd mention one site in particular but I don't want to be accused of violating this forum's TOS Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/261058-calculating-playoffs-odd/#findComment-1338242 Share on other sites
