Set Cookie to Stop jQuery Animation After 1 Page Load

unemployment

I'm in the process of building a portfolio site.  I have animations running on my homepage but I only want them to run once.  Right now, if you visit the page, the animations will run on every page load.  I want to set a cookie to capture that the animation ran and not run the animation again if the page is refreshed over and over.  I want the cookie to expire after a minute so that the animation can run again. I have no idea how to do this since I've never worked with cookies before.  Can anyone shed any light on the subject?
