I'm not very familiar with the service, but they provide a couple different options for sharing files. The Collaboration option makes it so you'll both be able modify the file. If you use the Share option instead, they should only be able to download a copy. If they make any changes, it shouldn't affect the original. To make sure that's true, you could create a second test account with MediaFire to see how it works.

Yeah, what you are asking doesn't make a lot of sense as you describe it. If you send them a file, what are you concerned about with someone editing it. You can, obviously, decide not to accept an modified files. So, the only thing I can assume is that you don't want people to modify your files to do something you did not intend. If that's the case, there really is no way to do that. Even if you could make the file read-only, what's to prevent them from doing a copy/paste into a new file? The best you could attempt to achieve is to "print" the file to some format where the text cannot be selected, such as an image. Note: You could do PDF, but typically text is still selectable. But, there are ways to "flatten" the PDF so the text is treated more like an image in the PDF.

But, even with that method, a quick conversion with an OCR reader will easily convert the "image" of the code back into text.

So, there really is no good way to provide someone your code and ensure they will not be able to edit/retrieve it.
