Hiding actual URL in browser WITHOUT using .htaccess

You could create a folder with the desired name, then insert an index.php file into that folder. So, if you want

http://www.mydomain.com/gallery/pictures

you'd place index.php inside the pictures directory, which is inside the gallery directory, which is in your webroot. Then make the links point to the directory, not the actual file.
