Resetting auto_increment

Hartley

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a table that has a bunch of stuff in it, but I did some testing in it. I removed the tests, but I want to reset the auto_increment in the table to where the last value left off. Can this be done manually without emptying the table and starting over? Thanks in advance!

See http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/example-auto-increment.html
To start with an AUTO_INCREMENT value other than 1, you can set that value with CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE, like this:

mysql> ALTER TABLE tbl AUTO_INCREMENT = 100;
