from HTML to TEXT

I have a database with some text strings that have embedded

<br/>

's in it.  I need to output the doc to text, and replace the

<br/>

's with \n 's (so it will display on paper correctly)

 

I am trying to keep it just in the sql

 

here is what I'm doing:

 

SELECT
`webfix`.`SORTING`,
`webfix`.`Topic`,
replace (`webfix`.`Definition`,'<br/>','\n') as Definition
FROM
`webfix`

 

but instead of displaying CR's, I'm getting little boxes in the text doc...

 

I don't understand what's wrong...

try replacing it with '\r\n' that is carriage return and line feed if you are on windows which i think you are.

Follow skali's suggestion...most likely you are looking at your output text in notepad, which doesn't recognize only "\n" as a line separator.  If you open the text document in wordpad it will show correctly.
