I would not recommend doing that, I would recommend getting a hosting company that will host your files and site for you, most hosting companies have up to date php installations that have GD, (at least, mine does) and you don't have to worry about messing around with anything unless you want to.

Oooook, whats your point, using an online hosting company is easier, and you can still use your domain.  In fact, you can buy a real domain, instead of a subdomain, (example.com instead of example.co.uk)  Trust me, its way easier, and you won't have to worry about downtime as much, when you turn off your laptop, your site goes away, when you host with a company, they will usually have an uptime guarantee, meaning that your site is promised to work, whatever percent of the time.

I didnt know that then, but i have bought the domain name about a month ago for 12 months, as  i was told it was cheaper to do it myself than get alternative hosting.......... This is my first time i have done a website, and i can keep an eye on who accesses my website.

I'll know better for next time but that doesnt help me at the moment. :-\

I'm sorry I can't be much help other than to tell you that hosting it yourself will give you problems, hosting with a company will alleviate a lot of those problems.  Its not to late to switch either, like I said, you can transfer domain registration and upload all your files to a host server, and bam, an online website with default php installation and everything set up for you, and most hosts have tracking software that will let you see who visited, mine (dreamhost) does, it tracks IP's, most used files, hits for individual pages, search terms refferers, reffering site report, and a lot more.  I think you should look into it.

You can always change the domain name to point to a server. You just have to rent or buy the hosting server. Some go from $7 for basic to $500 for really advanced per month. I would suggest a $50 depending on what you need.

In order to change the domain over you just have to change the DNS servers via godaddy or whoever you bought the domain from.

I would suggest running the PRODUCTION server from the web and the DEVELOPMENT server from your box.

But yea you can always change the DNS to point to a different IP/server =) Production servers need to be done right where you have bandwidth, usually hosting it on your machine makes your machine go slow, the server slow and provides alot more security risks.

Have you followed the instructions on this page?

By the way, those commands you where trying to execute via system where for Linux. Hence, they don't work on xp.

Thanks for the info, someone has been giving me the runaround >:( I am not sure what i am doing anymore with regards to what PHP i am setting up, i will wait till i get some more help from a friend at work.

This is getting to be more hassle than it's worth!!lol
