map200uk
Hi, I know what normalization is and how to do it, however I am having trouble normalizing one of my tables. The database is to be used for a system I am working on similar to Jinzora (www.jinzora.org) the tabkes: tblUser (UserID (pk), Username, Password) tblUserDetails (UserID,FirstName,Surname) userid from user is used as fk in userdetails then we have tblRestrictions(accessid, ip, host) so nothing else needed-that is all it relies on now the problem table (or i find it a problem) tblAudio (AudioID, TrackName, TrackArtist, Year, Genre, Album, Format, Location) the problem is, obviously it means that there will be duplicate entries for things such as format, year, genre etc, if anyone can offer some advice it would be much appreciated thanks Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/45273-mysql-relational-database-normalization-bit-of-help-please/ Share on other sites
fenway
Wouldn't worry too much about year... genre could be another table, same for location, if it really matters -- genre/format are probably the mos important.
