i know this will look stupid to the rest of you but please bare with me as i am very new to php and programming for that matter.

what im trying to do is a little loop within a function that talkes the variable $number and that returns the sum of the numbers between 0 and $number.

for example: sum(5) returns 15  since (5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1).

i've been trying for two days now and i cant seem to get my head wrapped around the solution.

any help would be gladly appreciated

thank you in advance

Here's an interesting way of doing this, using the range() and array_sum() functions:

<?php
function mysum($n){
$x = range(1,$n);
return(array_sum($x));
}
for ($i=1;$i<10;$i++)
  echo $i.' >>> ' .mysum($i).'<br>'; // just a way of testing it
?>
