what is the php.ini?

Read the article AndyB linked to and that will give you a good idea as to what it does and such. The short and sweet answer...... php.ini is the configuration file that allows you to alter PHP's behavior. It sets directories, limits and other items. It allows you to modify how PHP works.

I agree with AndyB in that don't mess with things you don't know about, but if you are like me and like to tinker, make a backup of your existing php.ini file and go to town. You can kill the php interpreter if you mess with the wrong settings in php.ini, so make a backup before messing with it.

Good luck and happy learning!
