Masashi
Hey, For some reason whenever I try to open one of my PHP scripts on my computer, it comes up as a download. I'm using it to work with MySQL set as localhost, so uploading it isn't avaliable. Anyone know what it is coming up as a download? <?php mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "password") or die(mysql_error()); echo "Connected to MySQL<br />"; ?> All the information needed to connect is correct. Masashi
Yes, I have PHP installed on my computer. This isn't my first PHP script, it just started doing this all of a sudden. What I mean is, I'll open it, IE opens, then it asked me if I want to download it (Open, Save as or Cancel). Just like downloading a file. I also have Apache and MySQL installed. wildteen88
Have you configured Apache? Apache needs to be configured to parse .php files with the PHP interpreter. ALso make sure you are going to http://locahost/filename.php and not going to File > Open ... within your browser. You must go to http://locahost in order run your php scripts. PHP is a server side language and not a client side language like HTML.
Masashi
Thanks, but I have already configured Apache, and it still comes up as a download. For example; the link is http://localhost/test.php It comes up as a download also.

jorgep
I'm not sure if It could be a config problem. I had the same problem when I tried to work with certain recursive algorithms in php. But have never happened with mysql_connect or echo Not sure hehe

wildteen88
if you are getting a file download screen when you go to a .php file then Apache is not configured correctly. I would recommend you to go through the tutorial Lewis987 suggested in his post earlier here for setting up Apache. There is nothing you can do within your scripts to stop this. It is down to Apache's configuration. Also could you attach your httpd.conf file here so I can how you have Apache configured.
Masashi
Alright, I'll look into it. # # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the # configuration directives that give the server its instructions. # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/> for detailed information. # In particular, see # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html> # for a discussion of each configuration directive. # # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure # consult the online docs. You have been warned. # # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log" # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" will be interpreted by the # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/logs/foo.log". # # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache"). # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located # will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid # confusion. # # ThreadsPerChild: constant number of worker threads in the server process # MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum number of requests a server process serves ThreadsPerChild 250 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 # # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's # configuration, error, and log files are kept. # # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive # at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile. # ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" # # Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or # ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost> # directive. # # Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to # prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses (198.166.224.139) # #Listen 198.166.224.139:80 Listen 80 # # Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support # # To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you # have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the # directives contained in it are actually available _before_ they are used. # Statically compiled modules (those listed by `httpd -l') do not need # to be loaded here. # # Example: # LoadModule foo_module modules/mod_foo.so # LoadModule actions_module modules/mod_actions.so LoadModule alias_module modules/mod_alias.so LoadModule asis_module modules/mod_asis.so LoadModule auth_basic_module modules/mod_auth_basic.so #LoadModule auth_digest_module modules/mod_auth_digest.so #LoadModule authn_anon_module modules/mod_authn_anon.so #LoadModule authn_dbm_module modules/mod_authn_dbm.so LoadModule authn_default_module modules/mod_authn_default.so LoadModule authn_file_module modules/mod_authn_file.so #LoadModule authz_dbm_module modules/mod_authz_dbm.so LoadModule authz_default_module modules/mod_authz_default.so LoadModule authz_groupfile_module modules/mod_authz_groupfile.so LoadModule authz_host_module modules/mod_authz_host.so LoadModule authz_user_module modules/mod_authz_user.so LoadModule autoindex_module modules/mod_autoindex.so #LoadModule cern_meta_module modules/mod_cern_meta.so LoadModule cgi_module modules/mod_cgi.so #LoadModule dav_module modules/mod_dav.so #LoadModule dav_fs_module modules/mod_dav_fs.so #LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so LoadModule dir_module modules/mod_dir.so LoadModule env_module modules/mod_env.so #LoadModule expires_module modules/mod_expires.so #LoadModule file_cache_module modules/mod_file_cache.so #LoadModule headers_module modules/mod_headers.so LoadModule imagemap_module modules/mod_imagemap.so LoadModule include_module modules/mod_include.so #LoadModule info_module modules/mod_info.so LoadModule isapi_module modules/mod_isapi.so LoadModule log_config_module modules/mod_log_config.so LoadModule mime_module modules/mod_mime.so #LoadModule mime_magic_module modules/mod_mime_magic.so #LoadModule proxy_module modules/mod_proxy.so #LoadModule proxy_ajp_module modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so #LoadModule proxy_balancer_module modules/mod_proxy_balancer.so #LoadModule proxy_connect_module modules/mod_proxy_connect.so #LoadModule proxy_http_module modules/mod_proxy_http.so #LoadModule proxy_ftp_module modules/mod_proxy_ftp.so LoadModule negotiation_module modules/mod_negotiation.so #LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so LoadModule setenvif_module modules/mod_setenvif.so #LoadModule speling_module modules/mod_speling.so #LoadModule status_module modules/mod_status.so #LoadModule unique_id_module modules/mod_unique_id.so LoadModule userdir_module modules/mod_userdir.so #LoadModule usertrack_module modules/mod_usertrack.so #LoadModule vhost_alias_module modules/mod_vhost_alias.so #LoadModule ssl_module modules/mod_ssl.so # 'Main' server configuration # # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main' # server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a # <VirtualHost> definition. wildteen88
Is that your current configuration? If it is then you have no configuration setup within the httpd.conf for setting up PHP with Apache. You will need to add the following to the httpd.conf in order setup PHP with Apache LoadModule php5_module "C:/php5/php5apache2_2.dll" AddType application/x-httpd-php .php Change C:/php5 to the full path where PHP is installed to. Save the httpd.conf and restart Apache. PHP files should now be working. I can't see how PHP was working fine until now as there is no configuration in the httpd.conf. Have you upgraded Apache recently?

RobertSubnet
Do I understand your problem correctly, you want to "open" the php file in a program such as notepad? If that is the case, do the following: *right click on the php file, scroll down to Open With *if you are using XP or W2K, you should see another menu that opens with some programs, one of them may be notepad. Click on Notepad to open the PHP file in Notepad. *if you want Notepad to open your PHP files by default, after clicking on Open With go down to the Choose Program option. *from the list that opens, highlight Notepad by left clicking on it ONCE. There is a check box at the bottom left: Always use the selected program to open this kind of file. *check this if you want Notepad to open your PHP files when you double click on them. That will stop Windows from asking about the download. Hope that helps. ~Robert

tanvir
Well I know it kinda sounds odd but if problem persists you can download wamp http://www.wampserver.com/en/ for windows. It will work like charm without any headache of installation problem.
