MYSQL Benchmark

If I suspect a certain query/table is causing performance problems, am I stupid to think this if A query can be executed and returned in less than a second

In other words, if MYSQL/query was causing a problem, would queries be taking 3+ seconds..

Its just that Im pointing the finger on a table which has 3,000,000 rows, yet when I do a query I get a result in 0.04 seconds...

Feedback would be great
